The one question you MUST ask before a tracheal shave

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

If you're considering chondrolaryngoplasty, you're likely not happy with seeing your adam's apple. This procedure can decrease the prominence of the protuberance, so you can't see the larynx as easily. But it has a very high complication rate of significantly negatively effecting the voice. Plastic surgeons who don't have laryngeal expertise add this procedure into facial feminization surgery without communicating the risk to clients, often because they themselves are not aware. If you're considering this procedure, we HIGHLY recommend you go to a laryngologist who has expertise and experience in this area. But regardless of who you go with, to protect your voice there is one question that is VERY important to ask:

Are you visualizing the vocal folds, or are you doing the procedure blind?
