Guide to Google Meet

We get asked a lot how to change pronouns and names on google meet.

This handy guide should make it a lot easier! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Instructions for changing name/pronouns in google meet:

1. Open the Chrome browser and go to

2. In the upper-right corner of the browser window, click on the three vertical dots.

3. From the drop-down menu, click on “Settings.” This will open a new page.

4. Find “Manage Your Google Account” and select it; again, a new page will appear.

5. On the left menu, click on “Personal Info” and a new page will appear.

6. Click on the “Name” field. You may be prompted for your password. Re-enter it.

7. Change the “Last Name” field to include your pronouns. Ex: Barnhill (She/Her)

8. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the page.

9. Google Meetings will now display your new Profile name in Google Meets

We also know how distracting it can be to need to watch yourself talk, or if you can't see the person speaking. This handy guide should help you adjust what you see on the screen.

Instructions for hiding yourself in google meet:

  1. Hover your mouse over your video.

  2. Click the three vertical dots.

  3. Select minimize, which looks like two arrows pointing towards each other.

Instructions for pinning what you want to see in google meet:

  1. Hover over what you want to see more or less of. This should show a small menu that has a pin on the left left.

  2. If you want it to be larger, click the pushpin to in it to the screen. If you want it to be smaller, unpin it.

  3. Alternatively, you can click on the three vertical dots at the bottom of the screen, and click change layout. That gives you more options for who you see, and their size.

I'm also always happy to set up a free phone consultation if you want to find your voice.
